Ask Peter: Transitioning Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall

Transitional periods are definitely the trickiest when it comes to dressing up, simply because the weather is way too unpredictable. Switching from summer to fall clothes isn’t an exception since you can never know for sure if your outfit is appropriate or not. I know that struggle very well myself, so I decided to share some useful tips and tricks on that issue. Stay with me and find out how to transition your summer wardrobe to fall like a pro!

Layering as the ultimate fashion strategy

You’ve probably heard it a million times before, but I really have to emphasize that layering is still the ultimate fashion strategy – especially when it comes to transitioning from summer to fall. Being lightly dressed on a chilly summer evening is definitely not cool, so make sure to upgrade those skin-baring pieces. Layering them over button-downs or regular T-shirts is always a good idea, so give it a try as soon as possible! The same goes for your shoes – you can still wear your favorite mules and platforms, but with a little twist. Ankle or knee socks may be really handy during fall, just make sure not to pick those white sporty ones!

Always think out of the box

Yes, I know that this sounds a bit vague, but you really need to think out of the box because that’s the only way to come up with a flawless transitional outfit. Magic doesn’t have to end once you’ve sorted out your summer clothes in order to put them away until next year. That’s simply wrong, so get creative with all those items you have at your disposal and nail that clothing combo like a boss! For example, you don’t have to ditch your beach bag as soon as fall arrives – instead, carry it around as a legitimate part of your boho-inspired outfit and you’ll see that it really belongs there!

Play with textures and fabrics

Playing with textures and fabrics has always been an absolute must, and it’s particularly important when talking about the period between seasons.  When it comes to summertime, there are cotton, linen, rayon, and chambray, which are probably the best picks for hot and humid weather. On the other hand, there’s a wide range of fabrics, such as lace, velvet, shearling, and cashmere, which are more than appropriate for fall. I always love to say that fashion is all about matching the unmatchable, so why wouldn’t you combine gorgeous womens sweaters (or even turtlenecks) with lightweight summer skirts? Trust me, such a combo is a match made in heaven!

Don’t be afraid to stretch out the sandal season

I believe that you have a favorite pair of sandals you probably even want to live in, and the good news is that you can stretch out the sandal season and wear them even when a bit chillier weather kicks in. Wearing sandals is definitely one of the best ways to make your hardcore fall pieces appropriate for some fabulous transitional looks, so don’t be afraid to pull off this amazing combo. Keep your toes exposed as long as you can since that little detail will have a huge role in your flirty fall outfit. There’s no need to worry though because you surely won’t freeze!

Making your summer clothing items perfectly appropriate for fall isn’t an impossible mission, no matter what you’ve initially thought. All you have to do is to have fun and wear whatever you want to wear since fashion is all about creativity and playing. Once you feel comfortable in your clothes, you’ll know that you’ve done the right thing!
