Ask Peter: Winter Workout Ideas

Winter brings the holidays I love so much and it’s a pretty festive season full of celebrations, parties, wonderful dinners and heavy meals that I can say include more calories than is good for my body. Since this is the case, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to exercise more! Actually, I don’t even need to wait for 2020 to come, I feel like starting working out and being active as soon as possible. I decided that it doesn’t have to be anything too extreme, but there are several winter workout ideas that I like, and they can sound cool to you as well. If you want to learn more, keep reading to find out what exercises and activities seem perfect for the coldest season to me because I think they can keep us fit and warm!

An indoor spin class

Winter isn’t the perfect time for riding a bike, not just because it’s too cold to handle, but paths are also pretty slippery. However, considering an indoor spin class can be exactly what we need! Even though it’s freezing outside, riding a bicycle inside can make us quite warm and comfy. Apart from the fact that I can burn all those unwanted calories, I’ll gain strength and protect my cardiovascular and respiratory health as well. But first, I need to choose the clothes that are exercise-friendly, like compression pants and my most comfortable sweatshirt and sneakers! These days, I rely on men’s compression socks for working out and they do seem perfect for any activity we want to be involved in.

Sledding like a kid

Sledding is definitely something children thrive in, but just because we are grown-ups, this doesn’t mean we should exclude this fun activity that can leave us out of breath. Sledding might not seem like something that burns many calories, but if you think so yourself – you’re wrong. This fun activity also includes trudging up the hill over and over again to get our sled in place, and this is what certainly helps us stay fit.

Light exercises at home

We also have an option to do our winter workout at home! I don’t know about you, but I dislike going to the gym when it’s too cold, windy and snowy outside, and that’s why I like this alternative so much. Creating my own exercise routines is fun, and I feel like trying some jumping jacks, sit-ups, burpees and more. I’ve read about some exercises recommended to anyone recently, and this is for those who prefer following things along. I don’t really worry about being unsuccessful at certain types of movement. The important thing to me is that I keep trying.

Cross country skiing workouts

I like another interesting idea, and that’s renting cross country skis and partaking in various cross country skiing workouts. Honestly, to me, winter exercises often sounded like something boring in the past, but it doesn’t need to be that way at all. In fact, I now realize that there are a number of great and cool opportunities we have for working out in the cold weather, and this one is among them. It might not be the safest choice compared to everything else mentioned, and it’s definitely not for everyone, but if you like the thrill that it comes with it, you can try it. I might do it myself because it seems exciting!

Hot yoga

Moving a little and escaping the cold outdoors sounds ideal for staying fit and warm during winter. That is why hot yoga sounds so tempting to me. This can be my ideal winter workout, allowing a great range of motion. I’ve read that it is good for so many reasons, and one of them is working on our flexibility. When our muscles and joints are flexible, we don’t need to worry about the risk of injury that much. Since during winter we are facing a lot of snow and ice on the ground, this is particularly useful. Hopefully, we won’t slip and fall and break anything, but this is still a great reason to think about doing hot yoga, so maybe you like it just like I do.

Don’t let the whole season pass by without you not being active at all, because this is something that happens to many of us. I know that when I skip a workout session only once, it starts happening all the time, so I will try to be persistent and consistent and work on my body for real this time! Let’s do it together!
