Buy Ugly Christmas Sweaters at Thrift Stores

The holiday season is here and you know what that means…ugly Christmas sweater time! A lot of folks buy their ugly Christmas sweaters new at stores or online. But how many have thought to rummage through the thrift stores to find their perfect sweater?

I am obsessed with thrift stores and it is because there is such an eclectic mix of items that will be different than what the stores are currently selling. I have been surfing YouTube channels because I love watching ugly Christmas sweater hauls or if you’re in Europe, they call them jumpers. But, what I have been noticing is that I’m seeing the same Xmas sweaters over and over again. Girls are buying their sweaters new from stores and they are going to the same stores as all the rest. So, when they show their haul, I’m like “hey, I already saw this sweater like 5 times already.”

You need to go to thrift stores to stand out from the crowd! When you go to thrift stores, what is donated is typically not going to be from “this season.” The sweaters or sweatshirts will be from last year, 3 years ago, 5 years ago, 10 years ago and so on. When people donate to thrift stores, you have no idea how long that item was with that person and from what year they bought it. That is the joy of thrifting! You get a variety of items that are so very different from all the same looks of today.

Let’s talk about price. When you buy a brand new sweater, it will cost you anywhere from $15 to $50, depending on where you bought it. I believe Walmart has some $15 sweaters and Kohl’s will run you $50 (when not on sale). There are a lot of choices to choose from, so you might end up spending more than the quantity you actually pick up. When you go to thrift stores, they price the items very low and you may get an even better deal on a 50% off the entire store day.

I recently went to my favorite thrift store, “Savers” and I went a little cray cray on buying ugly Christmas sweaters. There were just so many good ones that I just couldn’t help myself! I bought 14 of them and spent around $107. If you average them, that would mean that I spent $7.64 on each one. Now that my friends is a great deal, seeing that it is half the price of one of the cheapest new ones you would buy at $15.

But, don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself with my ugly Christmas sweater haul from Savers.

What is your favorite ugly Christmas sweater? Where did you get it? I would love to know your ugly Christmas sweater’s story :). Happy holidays and most of all…have fun sweater shopping!
