5 Tips For Losing Weight Before Summer

As soon as the first rays of spring sun touch us with its warmth, we become painfully aware of all that extra weight we gained during the winter months. Now that we wear less, we want to show off our beach body, but first, we need to get back into shape and lose our weight quickly and efficiently before summer. Here are some ways to achieve that.

Eat all your meals

You need your five meals a day. Skipping breakfast, or even dinner, won’t do you any good. It can only slow your metabolism down and make it more difficult to lose weight. Three main meals and two snacks between those meals is probably the best way to go. If you eat several portions of food, but smaller, your blood sugar levels will remain normal and you won’t be too hungry, which further means you won’t be reaching for high-calorie snacks. Another important thing is to schedule your meals so that the main meals and snacks are at least two hours apart. Choose your snacks wisely. Nibble on some fruit or vegetables, some home-made frozen yogurt or ice-cream, or a handful of nuts to keep your appetite under control.


Drink eight to ten glasses of water every day. And, yes, water means water, not soft or fizzy drinks, loaded with sugar. Water will hydrate you, help your body get rid of toxins and even make you feel less hungry. If you grow tired of water and want to spice things up a bit, have some unsweetened green tea, or squeeze a lemon or a grapefruit into your water.

Make the best of seasonal produce

Spring is the perfect time to change your dietary habits since you can find nutritious and tasty seasonal fruit and vegetables everywhere. Buy fresh food and make your meals from scratch, avoiding red meat in favor of chicken breast or fish, but in smaller amounts. Try making your meals colorful with vegetables and a touch of whole-grains. Invest in quality cookware and kitchen appliances so that you can make huge batches of your favorite meals, then freeze them and simply reheat them when you feel like eating them again. Cooking in batches can save you time, but you can also skip cooking occasionally and make some fresh salad instead, to maximize the nutrient intake.

Take a walk

If you normally go everywhere by car and don’t really spend enough time in the fresh air, schedule a 45-minute walk into your day and you’ll see the results in no time. Not only does walking burn calories, but being outside and in the sun can improve your mood and even boost your creativity. Walk as fast as you can without feeling any discomfort, but if you start experiencing shortness of breath, slow down a notch and don’t worry about it. You’ll walk faster tomorrow or the next day.

Change some habits

There are many small things you can do every day to help your body get rid of the extra weight. For example, change how you take your coffee. Instead of sugar and cream take the sugar-free and skimmed milk option. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, get off your bus earlier and walk for a stop or two, and always have an apple or two in your bag, to avoid the temptation of all those ice-cream and doughnut stands. Don’t eat anything after 8 P.M. and try to avoid alcohol altogether. If you really have to have a drink, make it a white wine spritzer. And instead of inviting your friends to a café, invite them for a picnic and pack a ball or a Frisbee for a healthy and active afternoon.

Most important of all, keep your positive attitude. Tell yourself that you can do it, because you really can. Create a good routine and stick to it, eat healthier food, be more active and enjoy life to the fullest.
